Move Strategic Action item (Initiative)

1. About Feature

This feature allows users to move an existing strategic action item (initiative) to a different location within the strategic plan. Users can reposition an actionable item (initiative) to another organization entity, another review period, or another Goal/Strategy (or equivalent framework level). This ensures flexible restructuring of plans without needing to recreate actionable items (initiatives).

2. Screen Explanation

A strategic action item (initiative) can be moved through two entry points, both leading to the same move interface:

a. Move Icon inside Edit Modal Inside the actionable item (initiative) edit modal, the right-side vertical action bar contains a Move icon. Clicking this opens the Move Actionable Item window.

b. Move Option from Kebab Menu In the Build Plan views (Board, Hierarchy, or Table), each actionable item (initiative) has a kebab menu. Clicking Move opens the same Move window.

Move Window Elements: c. Actionable Item (Initiative) Summary: Displays the name of the actionable item (initiative) being moved.

d. Organization Entity Selection Dropdown: Shows the current organization entity as the default selection, but users can choose any other organization entity from the dropdown.

e. Review Period Selection Dropdown: Users can move the actionable item (initiative) to any review period available under the selected organization entity.

f. Select Target Hierarchy (Goal, Strategy, etc.): Based on the Strategic Framework, only valid hierarchy levels (Goal → Strategy → lower defined levels) are shown. Users can select the Goal and then the Strategy (or equivalents).

g. Move Actionable Item Button: After all selections are made, the action confirms the move.

3. How to Perform this Feature/Functionality?

Method 1 — From the Edit Modal a. Log in to your VisionSync account using your credentials. b. From the left-side navigation bar, click Plan. c. Select Build Plan for the relevant strategic plan. d. Choose the organization entity and review period. e. Click Edit on the actionable item (initiative). f. Click the Move icon on the right action bar. g. The Move Actionable Item window will open.

Method 2 — From Build Plan Views (Board / Hierarchy / Table) h. Locate the actionable item (initiative). i. Open its kebab menu and select Move. j. The same Move Actionable Item window will appear.

Complete the move (common steps): k. In the Organization Entity dropdown, the current entity will be selected by default. Change it if needed. l. Select the Review Period you want to move the actionable item (initiative) into. m. Select the target Goal and Strategy (or dynamic framework levels) where the actionable item (initiative) should be placed. n. Click Move Actionable Item to complete the move.

4. Expected Result

Once moved, the strategic action item (initiative) is removed from its previous location and placed under the new selected organization entity, review period, and hierarchy position. All its data — including progress, labels, metrics, tasks, comments, and files — remain intact.

5. Dependencies and Restrictions

a. Only users with the required permissions for the organization entity can move actionable items (initiatives). b. The actionable item (initiative) can be moved to any review period available under the chosen organization entity. c. An actionable item (initiative) cannot be moved to the exact same organization entity, review period, and hierarchy location where it already exists. d. After selecting an organization entity, only its available review periods and hierarchy levels are shown.
